Valentine’s Day: Special Delivery

What will you do for your sweetie(s) for Valentine’s Day? Will you have something special delivered to work or school to say ‘be mine’?

A lot of thought (not to mention cash) goes into picking out just the right things and having them delivered.

I like thoughtful ideas rather than extravagant. I won’t be spending hundreds and hundreds of dollars. I won’t be sending six foot tall Teddy Bears, dozens of roses, or 10 pound heart shaped boxes of chocolate to school for my kids. I’ll just find a little something that’s cute and sweet that says Happy Valentine’s Day and lets them know that I’m thinking of them.

I used to just wrap everything and having it waiting to greet my kids when they came home after school, but having Valentines delivered to class has become quite the big deal here. Not wanting my kiddos to feel left out, I went along and picked a few things to have delivered. Multiplied by four, it got expensive quickly, and that’s before I picked out anything for my husband (silly me… I thought Valentine’s Day was for couples, a romantic holiday, not a replay of Christmas).

I’ve begun making my own deliveries instead. My youngest likes a visit from Mom during the school day and is happy with the personal delivery. For the older girls, I simply leave their items at the drop off point (usually in the gym) and when everything else is distributed, their stuff is too. No one has to know that I delivered.

I’ve also found that making up my own gifts is nicer and less costly. Instead of a lot of tissue paper and few goodies (with a big price tag), I put together my own arrangements. Instead of $5 for a balloon weight, I tie the end of the balloon to a can of soda or something that I think the girls will like. I haven’t yet decided what it will be this year…

Your spouse might also enjoy a special delivery at his or her place of business or maybe a lunch date that includes a sweet surprise.

Do you have big plans?
