Valentine’s Day Treats For Pets

Today is the day to make an extra special demonstration of your love and affection… so don’t forget your furry friends!

You don’t have to go too crazy to make the day a little special for your pets. A little extra petting and loving is always welcome. Maybe your dog would like an extra long walk, or a ride to the park for a romp with other dogs. Maybe your cat just wants to curl up at your side while you watch TV together.

If you don’t usually say it out loud, today is a good day to thank your pet for being such a great companion. I frequently THINK about how much I love and value Moose and Lally’s companionship… but I don’t say it as often as I think it. Then again, I’m the same way with people. I guess that’s why we have Valentines Day (aside from boosting the candy and card industries) – as a reminder to actually tell people we love that we love them.

And there’s nothing wrong with expressing your affection through a special treat! Keep the chocolate for yourself, though – chocolate can be harmful to cats and dogs!

And while we’re thinking about safety, watch out for your V-Day flowers… some types of lilies can cause kidney failure in cats. Keep your flower arrangements away from your kitties if they include Tiger, Asian, Japanese Show, Easter, Stargazer, or Casa Blanca lilies.

An extra treat or two is a nice way to show your affection today. I know my dogs go crazy for vanilla ice cream, so they may get a small taste of Haagen Daaz after they eat dinner. Or maybe a plain rawhide with a little smear of peanut butter on one side. You know best what kind of treats your pets love.

But the best treat of all is a little quality time with their humans. Happy Valentines Day to you and your furry family!
