VeggieTales: The Complete Silly Song Collection Part III

Note: This is a four-part series. See also: Part I, Part II, Part IV

We all know VeggieTales as those loveable fruits and vegetables who teach children about life lessons and God. “The Complete Silly Song Collection” is a four-disc collection of songs from other VeggieTales videos. It will make you and your child laugh, sing, and dance while learning all about the right things to do.

The third disc included in this collection is entitled “The Ultimate Silly Song Countdown.” This video features those loveable characters the Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything – Larry the Cucumber, Mr. Lunt, and Pa Grape – counting down the VeggieTales’ most requested silly songs according to votes counted in the Astonishing Contraption of Silliness. Between each song the Pirates eat leftover Chinese food, enjoy some idle conversation, and attempt to fix the Contraption when it mixes up the names of songs. Each song is introduced by the Astonishing Contraption of Silliness and then the video plays. You and your child will laugh at these silly selections as well as at the Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything.

Number 10 on the countdown is a song called “Endangered Love” which is the title of a soap opera watched by Larry the Cucumber. The show has a character called Barbara Manatee with whom Larry is in love. In this song, the particular episode that Larry is watching involves Barbara and another character Bill discussing why their relationship has troubles. Bill feels that he needs to leave Barbara because he wants to “go into the world and do noble things for the good of all” and he can not take Barbara with him because she can’t speak French. Barbara insists that he stay so that she can go to the ball with him. Throughout the song, Larry sings to Barbara – his plush doll of the character – that he will go to the ball with her.

Number 6 on the countdown is “The Yodeling Veterinarian of the Alps.” This song is about Larry the Cucumber as a veterinarian who yodels to cure his sick patients. Pa Grape plays his nurse who offers advice to the patients’ owners about real cures. When the veterinarian refuses to give his nurse a raise, the nurse leaves him with a bear-trapped teddy bear who does not feel better after Larry yodels to him. The bear proceeds to chase Larry around his office.

Between Numbers 5 and 4, the Astonishing Contraption of Silliness experiences a severe malfunction. When Pa Grape goes to fix it, he tells Larry and Mr. Lunt to make up another silly song to keep the audience busy. They make up a song based on the menu for the Chinese restaurant and call it “Do the Moo Shoo.”

This DVD is a fun, entertaining laugh-fest for the entire family. The silly antics of the Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything will keep you amused throughout the entire video while the silly songs tickle your funny bone.

“VeggieTales: The Complete Silly Song Collection” is available for purchase at Best Buy, Amazon, and various Christian retailers for approximately $30-35. “The Ultimate Silly Song Countdown” is also available for purchase by itself.
