All across the country, you will find some of the most gorgeous gardens. While you might not think of this as a great option for kids, you would be surprised in that many gardens feature not just trees and flowers but also gorgeous water elements, rock formations, and butterflies. We spent time a few years back traveling to a number of gardens and the kids had a blast. I wanted to share a place we saw in case you are looking for your own vacation escape.
Majestic Gardens is located in the Bonfante Family Gardens Theme Park located in California. What made this so wonderful was that the Majestic Gardens is actually a group of six specific gardens, each with something unique to offer. However, in addition to the gardens, you will find great places to eat, games to play, and a number of exciting rides.
The first garden we visited was called Claudia’s Garden. As the oldest garden in the park, you will find magnificent color to include conifers, pine-like trees, various topiaries, and fields of vibrant colored flowers. While we enjoyed this garden, the children preferred time in the Rainbow Garden. There, we took the Rainbow Garden Round Boat Ride, which took us on a journey along a winding stream where you could enjoy gorgeous fields of flowers.
The Camellia Garden was also fun, featuring sasanqua and japonica camellias. In addition, everyone enjoyed the fields of annual flowers and Japanese maples. Then, we moved on to the Holly Garden, which features more than 20 different species of holies. However, while this was all fun, the kid’s favorite garden was the Monarch Garden. In addition to hundreds of tropical and subtropical plants, trees, shrubs, and flowers, we all enjoyed the 60-foot greenhouse.
The fun aspect of this particular garden is your choice of viewing things from three levels. For instance, you can stay on the footpath, viewing things from below. In addition, you can take the train that tunnels through the ground, offering you more than 50 feet of growth. If you prefer, there is the ride from up above on the Sky Trail Monorail, the kid’s favorite.
Before heading off to the rides, we took a little time in the sixth garden, called the South County Backroads Garden. There, we were treated to an up-close experience with antique cars from the 1920s and 1950s. This surrounded by a canopy of deciduous trees, topiaries, flowerbeds, wide-open meadows, and various rock and water features, we all had an amazing time.
