Visiting Friends

I had the joy of spending a weekend away with some friends. We stayed at another friends house and it was wonderful. My friend knows how to prepare for house guests and made sure that we had everything we needed while we were there.

The beds were made with soft sheets, the bathrooms were stocked and the kitchen had plenty of water and snacks so we could just grab something whenever we felt the need instead of asking her for things.

The first thing she did when we got there was give us the tour and show us where we could find everything we need. It was so nice to be able to get up in the morning and get a glass of water without having to search the cabinets.

JJ is so good at mixing the time we all spent together with time we all needed apart. My friend and I who visited are single mothers who live alone, we are used to a fair amount of alone time. I loved being able to sit on the deck and read and not feel like I had to be entertained the whole time.

It’s so nice when someone is so welcoming and accommodating. The flip side of that is being a good house guest.

Never take someone’s hospitality for granted. Always be gracious, people do not have to open their homes to you.

My friend and I made sure our dishes were rinsed and put away and our beds were made in the mornings. Before we left we stripped the beds so our friend could return the rooms to their original state.

Always pick up after yourself. This shouldn’t have to be said but some house guests will treat a friends home like a hotel, throwing their towels on the floor or across the bed. Remember, this is your friends home.

Enjoy your stay and make sure you do something nice for your hosts. Take them out to dinner, buy a candle or something else for their home, offer to walk the dog for them. Small gestures mean a lot and ensure you will get invited back.
