It’s the weekend and we are still dealing with traffic, at least on a military base we do. It doesn’t seem to matter whether it is a holiday, week day or weekend. There is always traffic, especially in the military housing area. Most families these days already have two cars, which means they already park one in their driveway and one on the sidewalk by their homes. Where do visitors park when they come?
Here’s a question, is this really a big problem for civilian’s? (or what I would call the outside world) I picture life outside the base having space between houses, long driveways and long front yards. If this is really the case, no one probably deals with your next door neighbor having a party and inviting over everyone in town. Okay, so he/she didn’t invite everyone in town but they had about 6 cars come to visit. If you live on a street like I do there is already no place to park and you must dodge children of all ages just to go down the road. Add an extra six cars next door to the mix and you are asking for trouble.
So, what does one do? Well, if you are the host of the party, try finding out if the people can’t carpool. Remember, if you are sponsoring all these people on the base and just one runs past the speed limit it is your bottom on the line and if by chance one of these cars scratch your neighbors…well you get the picture. Keep in mind that the yards are small, ask your neighbors on both sides of you if they mind that their space will be taken. Chances are they’ll be happy you asked and won’t mind terribly too much, as long as it isn’t all weekend.
If you happen to be the neighbor, keep in mind that you may one day decide to have a party, BBQ or relatives over. If you allow your neighbors to park in your area without a complaint, chances are they will return the favor.
Have a great weekend, I need to go find a place to park.
