Visual Brainstorms: The Smart Thinking Game comes with 100 sturdy over-sized playing cards. The cards are color coded for easy, hard, and extra hard questions. Some of the cards have bonus questions. Harder questions are awarded more points. Some have “visual” bonus questions that you can only answer by having paid close attention to the card before you flipped it over for the answer.
This game can be played several ways. I like that it’s so flexible for rules and time limits. You can play as teams, or with one or two players. If you play as teams you can alternate questions or work on the same question. The first team with the right answer gets the points. Pencil and paper are handy to have for figuring out some of the questions. You won’t need computers or calculators, but you will need your brain.
Each of the hundred cards has a different type of brainteaser question. Some questions have the player figuring out how to divide a shape evenly. Some questions use logic to figure out an order of events. A few questions are almost like riddles. The player may have to rearrange letters into new words, figure out which complicated shapes match, or decipher codes. A few questions involve the laws of physics and figuring out what is wrong with the picture. Some questions even have more than one correct answer!
The game is recommended for ages 11 and up. Some of the cards could be used with younger children, particularly the easy questions. I think it would be great for older people to keep their brains sharp! Binary Arts, the game makers, also suggest bringing along a few cards for waiting, bringing a couple to the dinner table, or putting a few in cards you send to family and friends. It’s a fun game for working the brain.
