Waiting for Pathology Again

Hello again, well today I am thinking about what is going on with my husband. He is a testicular cancer survivor for the last seven years and he is also a diabetic. Within the last few weeks we have found out that one of his kidneys was failing and died. He has undergone all these different test and found that his kidney was not getting any blood flow and one of them was totally dead.

Last week he underwent a kidney removal and has been in the hospital for the last nine days. He had his surgery 5 days ago and I am sitting here stressing while I wait for the pathology report to come back. Now if you did not know if you have any organ removed from your body whether it is your appendix, gallbladder or kidney they automatically send it to the pathologist. The pathologist will dissect the body part that was removed and examine it for any signs of disease.

So when you have had cancer or if the person you love has had cancer the waiting is the worst part. Now I know that the likelihood that it is cancer is very slim, the urologist that did the surgery said if he had any doubts that it may have been cancer he would have removed some lymph nodes and because he did not that should make me feel reassured but it really does not. I am one of those types of people that need to see it on paper to believe it. Does that make me crazy? Right now I kind of feel crazy especially because he should have been released two days ago but now his kidney function test are not lining up to where they should be for someone with only one kidney. Poor guy he is going to be a little unbalanced his testicular cancer was on the right side and the kidney that was removed was the right one too.

I don’t know if the radiation he endured 7 years ago had any effect on the kidney dying or if it was the bad arteries he inherited, we may never know what caused it to die but I will feel better when I see the pathology report myself. Hopefully it will be back tomorrow, fingers crossed.

About Tammy Woolard

My name is Tammy and I am 40 year old mother of 3 wonderful children who came to us through domestic adoption. Although we did not have any fertility issues we chose adoption because there are so many kids that did not ask to be born but truly want a family to love. We did research on adoption choices and decided on domestic adoption through CPS. You would be surprised the differences between each agency. The adoption process is nothing like you see in the movies. I am also a 5 year breast cancer survivor. When I was diagnosed my kids were 3, 5 and 7 I did so much research I may have driven my Dr. a little crazy but that is ok it is my body not his.
