Wall Hangings for Kids’ Rooms

Here are some cute ideas wall hangings your children can make to help decorate their rooms. These can be hung on their walls, but can also be used to on bedroom doors.

Feminine Touch

Pick up a package of paper doilies. You will need as many doilies as letters for a word you want to spell out. Your little girl can spell her name, her nickname, or spell out a word that means something to her. Cut letters from pretty fabric. Use pinking shears to create edges that won’t fray, or add brick-a-brack to the edges. Glue one letter on each doily. You can either hang them evenly spaced side by side or up and down, or have them overlap each other a bit. Another option is to stagger them a little. Add glitter to the doilies for extra sparkle.

Sports Themes

Have your son or daughter cut sports shapes from the appropriate colors of felt or other sturdy fabric, for example, orange for basketball, white circles for baseballs, brown footballs, or white soccer balls. Add details to make them look more authentic with paint pens or markers. You can use all one sports item or mix and match if your child likes a variety of sports. Then, spell out a name or word as noted above and hang them up in one of the ways mentioned.

Dimensional Effects

You can glue your shapes or doilies to poster board and then attach small blocks of wood to the backside of each one to make them stand out from the wall or door for added dimension. You can also hang some flush with the wall and use the wood block idea on the rest to add dimension to the design.

*This idea is also cute in a nursery. Spell out “baby” or your baby’s name on teddy bear shapes, or make cutouts that look like building blocks, or anything else you like.
