Want to Get Skinny? Eat Chocolate

chocolate I knew it all along. Those of use who eat chocolate tend to be skinnier. No one would believe me, but her you go, some evidence. Well, at least some support for my theory.

Researchers have found that eating chocolate may in fact keep you slim. People who eat chocolate frequently tend to have a lower Body Mass Index (BMI) than people who eat chocolate only infrequently. (Who are these people who only eat it infrequently? Perhaps we should sign them up for a study that examine’s their mental health. Just kidding of course.)

The average person eats chocolate twice a week, and this was the benchmark for those who ate it more frequently or less frequently.

Something surprising in the study is that most chocolate consumers actually eat more calories than the non-chocolate lovers, but despite this, they have the thinner builds. You might think people high on chocolate might be exercising more, but the study accounted for this and found that the participants did not exercise any more frequently or intensely to make up for those extra calories.

The results of the study suggest that there might be something in chocolate that may make the calories you eat less likely to end up as fat in your body, sort of like you have a bit of a free pass.

Before you get too excited, though, when the researchers looked at the actual amount of chocolate that was being consumed, the people who ate a lot of chocolate a lot of the time did have higher BMI results. That means you really can’t eat 25 pounds of chocolate a day and expect to stay slim.

Previous research has shown that there are some health benefits to eating dark chocolate, because it is rich in substances called polyphenols.

The study was published in a medical journal, Archives of Medicine this month.
