In honor of our Going to the Chapel month here at the Marriage Blog, I have a small challenge that I hope you will all join me in. Starting today and ending on Friday, May 12th at midnight, I will be holding a contest on wedding planning. Yep, that’s right – no, you don’t have to plan a wedding. Instead, I would like you to write up a short piece (250 words or less) the best piece of advice you can think of for a couple about to be married.
Your advice does not have to be limited to just planning the wedding. You can give couple advice, financial advice, communication advice or even just plain romantic advice. What I am looking for is creative, original advice. I’m looking for new ideas, great ideas, simple ideas and even frugal ones!
As we all know, getting married can be a stressful, albeit wonderful time. Some of us are fortunate to have families, friends and other, older, wiser counsel that can provide us with great advice. Sometimes we don’t have that. This contest is about asking you to share your great ideas, tips or advice with others to help them on their journey to that special day.
Some Ideas:
- Have you been married for more than 25 years? What’s your secret to success?
- What is the one piece of advice you wish someone had given you before you got married?
- If you were planning your own wedding now, what would you do?
- What’s creative advice would you offer to make the wedding more personal? The wedding reception?
- What about honeymoon advice?
Remember, this is a family forum so we’ll have to keep it clean. This is not limited to women only, I’d love to hear what the guys have to say. I’ll be posting the winning entries on Monday, May 15th and the winner will receive the following DVDs: My Best Friend’s Wedding & The Wedding Planner. Second and third place will get honorable mentions.
I can’t wait to see what you have to say, after all, some of the best wedding advice I ever received was from a perfect stranger I met in a Bridal Shop. She told me that I didn’t have to wear the big white wedding dress to please everyone else – frankly, on the bride’s day — if she wants to wear shorts and flip-flops, then why not?
To submit your entries, just click on my name at the top and send me a private message. Put your essay in the body of the message! That’s all there is to it! Be sure to include your name and where you are writing from (City/State is fine) with your entry.
