Ward and Family

One of the blessings of being a member of the church is the immediate fellowship that you can find in the ward. The ward family provides many services to its members. It is a place that you can go to find friendships in a new area. It is a support system and a place that provides comfort in times of grief.

Unfortunately there are wards or situations when you may have a hard time getting the help that you need. It is important to pray about the situation. You may need to extend yourself more or attend more activities. It also does not hurt to ask for help when you need it. If you are new to an area this can be especially difficult to do, but often people don’t know how to help.

It is comforting to know that no matter where you live, you will be attending the same church that teaches the same doctrine. A ward can step in and provide help when your family is far away. For example you may find a ward grandmother that helps with the young children in Relief Society or a single sister who wants to play the role of fun aunt with your children.

If you are preparing for a move, but want to learn more about the area you can call a local bishop of the area that you are moving to. He can offer suggestions on homes or neighborhoods in the area, as well as recommend schools. And if he can’t, he can give you the Relief Society’s president number who will provide all of that help.

Currently I live in a ward where the majority of the members live far away from family. They stand together inviting friends over to celebrate Thanksgiving, Christmas and birthdays. You never need to feel lonely when you are part of a good ward.
