Warm up your home even in the middle of a winter chill with these great tips.
Modern homes boast cathedral ceilings and more space than ever before. The possible downside to these larger spaces is a possible loss of warmth to the space. Sometimes even smaller rooms can feel cool because of color and design choices, and sometimes even the furniture arrangment. There are ways to to make a room cozier, even if it currently seems overwhelming.
Warm paint colors, such as reds and oranges will instantly warm up a room. They will also make the space seem smaller. In a large room, don’t be afraid to paint all of the walls, and even the ceiling in a dark, rich color. For smaller rooms, consider painting just one accent wall to warm things up. For wall paper, chose a bold pattern.
Grouping your furniture into arrangements can help to warm up a room. Create separate areas with this method. In our old home, for example, we added a round, pine game table and chairs to the living room, and we hung a light fixture over the table. This created an intimate space that added warmth to a long living room.
Create areas of the room that will encourage everyone to curl up and relax. A reading nook in a corner lined with bookshelves and a comfy chair and reading lamp, or area rugs to create individual spaces will warm up a room.
Add plenty of comfy accessories, such as pillows, as well as plants. They instant help a room feel lived in and homey.
Tall ceilings can be minimized with the use of wide crown molding. The molding will also add a sense of elegance to the room.
For furniture, choose fully upholstered furniture and dark woods. Avoid glass-topped tables, which can be cold looking. Glass also adds to a sense of space.
