Making small changes will amount to big changes in time. Robert Collier said, “Success is the sum of small efforts repeated day in and day out.” That is a great quote and one which has many applications. I use it all the time to remind me that some goals take time and even the small stuff does count. Where dieting is concerned we often lose ground by thinking cutting out something small or walking a few extra feet will make no difference to our overall goals. However, when you live your goal purposefully this will manifest in constantly making decisions to achieve it. One small way to aid you in your goals is to cut 100 calories out of your diet today. In fact, if you implement enough of these small changes then you will find yourself cutting out up to 500 calories a day! Imagine cutting out 3500 calories or one pound out of your diet a week!
Simple ways to cut 100 calories out of your diet.
Spread 2 tablespoons maple syrup instead of 1 tablespoon of butter on whole grain waffles.
Use 1.5 ounces of fat free cream cheese on your bagel instead of regular cream cheese.
Use small bagels instead of medium or large bagels. (I love bagels so I have begun to use fat free cream cheese and purchase small bagels.)
Choose 3 oz. of mozzarella cheese for your sandwich instead of Swiss cheese
Use 2 Tbsp reduced-fat light mayonnaise instead of regular mayonnaise
Have for dessert: 1 cup of low-fat frozen yogurt instead of regular ice cream
Instead of 3 oz. of regular sour cream, use a fat-free variety
Replace bacon at breakfast with reduced-fat turkey bacon or Canadian bacon.
Steam veggies instead of sautéing them in butter or oil.
Replace at least 2 cans of soda a day with water. Add lemon or lime for some flavor.
Use skim milk or 1 percent milk for cooking needs instead of 2 percent or whole milk.
