There is something special about gathering with family during the holidays. Sharing time together can help build bonds between family members. Here are some simple things you can do to encourage family members to gather together during December.
Attend a Religious Event Together
Many families have a specific religion that they follow. Parents can bring their children to the building where the religious experience will take place. Doing so gives the children guidance that the parents want them to learn. When the children become adults, they might look forward to attending a religious event with their parents again. This is especially true when the event is one that they have fond memories of participating in.
Celebrate Together
Important holidays that happen in December tend to come with their own decorations, music, and foods. Invite your family to come over and participate in celebrating the holiday together as a family. People tend to find comfort and enjoyment by helping with the necessary parts of a holiday celebration. This is how pleasant memories are made.
Protect the Vulnerable
You may be excited about visiting your family members – in person – during the holidays. The safest way to do this is to take precautions in order to prevent family members who are immunocompromised, or who are unvaccinated, from catching or spreading COVID-19.
According to Very Well Family, safety precautions include wearing a mask indoors, hosting your celebration outside, or getting together in smaller groups. Loma Linda University Health recommends that people take a COVID-19 test before arriving at the location. All of these practices will help prevent vulnerable people from catching the virus.
Send A Care Package
Do you have a loved one who is in the military? If they have been deployed to a far away place, they may feel a bit lonely during the holidays. One way to make them feel better is to send a care package to them via the USO.
According to the USO, sending care packages to troops is a tangible way to let service members know that their friends, family, and the American people are thinking of them, even from thousands of miles away. It isn’t the same as being in the one room together. But it will make your relative who is in the military feel loved.
