Ways to Have Fun on a Budget

The month of May is cause for celebration in our family. In addition to Mother’s Day, we also celebrate three birthdays, one wedding anniversary, Memorial Day, and the end of the school year.

Who knew we could do all that celebrating without breaking the bank?

In the last week or so I have been inundated with dozens of special offers from different companies offering free meals, free gifts, big discounts, and a ton of additional ways to save big bucks on fun activities.

For example, Disneyland and Walt Disney World are offering free admission throughout 2009 for anyone celebrating a birthday. That translates to a $75 savings for adults, and a $63 savings for kids at Disney World. According to Disney execs, more than 2 million people have registered their birthdays on Disney’s website, including several families with multiples. Disney says dozens of sets of triplets, quadruplets and quintuplets have saved a bundle on admission by taking advantage of the company’s birthday promotion.

When you celebrate your big day at Disney, admission is not the only thing you get for free. Individuals who choose to celebrate their birthdays with Mickey and Co. also get the chance to take advantage of other freebies. Birthday guests receive a special birthday button that may score them an invite to dance and play with the characters or get a customized birthday cake complete with Goofy and Minnie singing “Happy Birthday” and posing for pictures.

Disney is doling out other money-saving gifts to birthday girls and boys (and their parents), including free lodging at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort. Visitors can get one free night on their birthday at the Disney resort. Likewise, the Nick Hotel (located near Disney World) is offering birthday revelers a free night’s stay at its property. Not to be out done, Imagine Vacation Home in Orlando is offering free one-day Disney tickets for the whole family, if you book a five-night stay.
