Ways to Identify Spam 101 (and why not to)

How often are you on a message board when you see a post with an intriguing title. You open it and it’s a “hidden” ad? For some reason, people don’t think that is considered spam.

Example:

Subject: I am sooo excited!

Hi all!
I’m soo excited! I just started a new business for the best company. My upline already made $4500 a month in her first 3 months with the company! This company is the best. I would love to help you get started. Please email me!

OR

Subject: #1 Reason for Failing

Wow! I found the perfect opportunity. I tried 10 other businesses and failed because I didn’t find a good one. Now I’m getting rich. Email me and I’ll start you on your way.

When you click on these, you don’t think that it will be a “recruiting” ad. Anytime someone says “email me” or “visit my website”, they are spamming the boards. Others don’t mention it, but do “hype” up their business.

Now some boards don’t care, but others have strict no recruiting rules. Often they will let you use your signature (the way you sign your name) to let others know what you do, and this can be very effective.

Don’t be tagged as a spammer. Those who are spammers often get shunned from the online community. Granted, many don’t care, they are only out for themselves, but it is just not good netiquette.

Spammers are annoying. All they do is give the moderator another post to delete. If you are on a website with a lot of traffic, it will get reported right away and then promptly removed. Often someone will tag it as spam and announce you to the world.

Spammers give others in their company a bad name.

Spamming is a waste of time, for both the spammer and those who have to delete it. Since it gets deleted, you just wasted your time. Plus, no one wants to remove spam all day.

If you are unsure if you are spamming, ask yourself this “Is the sole purpose of this post to recruit or get sales?” If so, you are probably spamming.
