Ways to Save at the Grocery Store

In my last blog I talked about saving money on groceries with coupons. Coupons are just one way to help save money. Another way you can do this is with your favorite store’s ads. Whether you receive these ads through the mail or in your newspaper, they can be very helpful in saving some dough.

My favorite store will often feature a 10 for $10 deal. While I am tempted to only pick up a couple of items and spend just a couple of bucks, I know that in the end I am saving money if I go ahead and get the 10 items. Buying items in bulk is always a good way to save money in the long run.

Another money-saving deal that my favorite grocery store does is something called a “Meal Deal.” You buy one item that is more expensive and then you get related items that cost less for free. Sometimes these can be really good deals. One time you had to buy a couple of packages of sausage links and you got a free carton of eggs and a container of orange juice.

Look for special deals like this at your favorite store. In addition, some grocery stores will set aside a special day where coupons are doubled. This can be a really great way to save money.

It’s also important to look for items that are on sale and you have coupons for. I noticed that many of the coupons that come in the mail are items that are on sale at the local grocery store. So you save money inside the store and then more with the additional coupon.

Don’t forget that buying generic brands can also be a great way to save money. Personally there are some things, like ketchup, I just can’t go generic on. I am a Heinz girl. But I have discovered other food items that taste just as good or even better in the generic brand.
