We Find Out ABout Our Daughter

So I am sitting at my desk at work and the Texas CPS case worker for our two boys was on the phone. They had found their biological mother who was under arrest for a parole violation and he had a question for me. My heart was racing and tears were welling in my eyes I thought for sure he was going to tell me she wanted to fight for custody of at least one of the boys who I loved as my sons. It was a week before our first Christmas we have been looking forward to this so much I don’t know how I will be if he says something like that.

The question out of his mouth surprised me. It went something like “Mrs. Woolard well the birth mother is back in jail she was arrested after giving birth to a little girl and we were wondering if you would want to take her into your home as well.” Wow, that was not what I was expecting to say the least. It turns out our boys had a three week old baby sister who was in a foster home and because we have her brothers they called us. When the shock wore off and I could speak again I said yes of course. He said that another case worker was going to handle her and I should call her to get the details.

Now I realize I am married and I should have called my husband and asked first I mean this was a baby and not a puppy but the yes came out. I called my husband and I was crying and told him the case worker called and that I said yes and that we were going to have a little girl tomorrow. I think it went “The boys have a sister she is three weeks old they want to know if we are willing to take her and I said yes and they are bringing her tomorrow. Hope you say ok because I already did”. Yep that is right we had one night to get another baby crib ready, buy a car seat and all the other things you need for a new born. We had talked about adopting a little girl when our youngest was close to kindergarten and he is a long ways from that, he was only 20 months by now.

We really lucked out I worked with some great people, they called their wives and told them what was happening and I guess they got the word out to their friends. Later that evening one of the sales guys called and said he had some things for a baby girl for us. He brought over bags and bags of baby bedding, baby clothes, car seats and basically everything we needed for a new baby girl.

About Tammy Woolard

My name is Tammy and I am 40 year old mother of 3 wonderful children who came to us through domestic adoption. Although we did not have any fertility issues we chose adoption because there are so many kids that did not ask to be born but truly want a family to love. We did research on adoption choices and decided on domestic adoption through CPS. You would be surprised the differences between each agency. The adoption process is nothing like you see in the movies. I am also a 5 year breast cancer survivor. When I was diagnosed my kids were 3, 5 and 7 I did so much research I may have driven my Dr. a little crazy but that is ok it is my body not his.
