Wedding Bells Ring for a “Desperate Housewives” Star

Desperate Housewives star Marcia Cross should be sending newlyweds Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban a big bouquet of flowers, and perhaps, some champagne this morning. Not just because they were married, but because of when they got married. While the press converged on Kidman and Urban’s Sunday nuptials in Australia, Cross and stockbroker Tom Mahoney enjoyed a comparably understated wedding ceremony (with far less media presence) on Saturday, June 24th, in San Gabriel, California.

This is the first marriage for both Cross, 44, and Mahoney, 48, who started dating in the Spring of 2005 and became engaged that August. Cross told PEOPLE Magazine that she knew Mahoney was “a keeper” when he played word games with her in bed the night before the Emmy nominations were announced (she snagged her first nod in July 2005).

The bride wore a gown by Reem Acra at the ceremony, which took place before about 200 guests, including Cross’ Desperate Housewives co-stars Eva Longoria and Felicity Huffman. And in true Hollywood fashion, Cross added her own twist to the traditional bridal party. In lieu of bridesmaids, Cross had seven flower girls, ranging in age from 3 to 12 – all children of her closest friends.

Guests’ report that the ceremony went of without a hitch and that Cross was breathtaking in her custom made gown. For months prior to the wedding, Cross credited her new husband for her radiant appearance. “My favorite beauty product is my fiancé, Tom,” she told PEOPLE in April. “It’s true. I think that beauty comes from being happy and connected to the people we love, and his love makes me feel beautiful.”

Now that the pair has said their “I do’s,” don’t look for Cross to morph into her Desperate Housewives perfectionist character, Bree Van De Kamp. Cross recently confessed to Martha Stewart that not only is she a terrible cook, but compared to her new husband, she is also very messy.
