Wedding albums seem to be on their way out of standard wedding protocol, and videos are in. How did this happen and why? Well, with all the technological advances available today, memories are going the way of all things, namely digital. A wedding is a special day to be sure, and with a wedding video, the bride and groom and their happiness are the stars of their own moving picture show. While a photograph certainly captures specific moments, like toasts and kisses and the like, it is not the same as actually reliving, moment by moment, the hours minutes and seconds that comprised the most important event of your life.
According to Philadelphia magazine, “Elegant Wedding,” most wedding videos run about 45 minutes and cost about $5,000 dollars. As is the case with many other things, one gets what one pays for, and in the case of these videos, it is of utmost importance to pick a videographer with much experience. (Otherwise, you might end up with a film like one shown on the “I Love Lucy Show” so many years ago with images of Ethel and Lucy upside down in cowboy outfits mixed up with pictures of the baby and Ricky’s musical audition!)
Another important element to consider is communication. If you cannot talk to your videographer and tell him or her exactly what you want, you will not get a finished product that will please you. For example, when a couple exchanges vows, they most often want the camera out of the way, not blocking the view of the couple. A professional will know this and not need to be told.
A photo captures a moment in time, but a video relives the moment for all time. Sounds and voices enhance the recall of precious events. A wedding video is a wonderful thing, but you should shop carefully and thoroughly before making a decision.
