Wednesday Widgets: Banana Warehouse

For today’s Wednesday Widgets, we are going to be a little playful. Game widgets are popping up faster than you can say Suduko. One cute little game is called Banana Warehouse.

In this game, you are a forklift driver, and you need to sort crates of bananas into their proper bins. Crates of green bananas go on the left and crates of yellow bananas go on the right. You control your forklift using the arrow keys on the computer. You also have a limited amount of time to do your sorting.

The concept is super easy to learn, although the controls might take a little getting used to. I find myself to be an overly enthusiastic banana forklift driver, frequently overshooting my target and bouncing off of walls, or backing myself into a corner with no way out. A gentle touch and a premeditated sorting strategy seems to be the best way to approach this game.

Although Banana Warehouse is easy to learn, I found it challenging enough, at least for the first few times I played. Even on the easy level, I could not get all of my crates sorted before the timer ran out. One of the challenges to the game is when crates of different colored bananas are on top of each other, forcing you to sort of slam into them and knock them around to separate the crates for sorting. This is great fun (see the explanation above about my little tendency to be an overenthusiastic driver) and educational. It is educational, because I now know why all of the bananas at the Produce Junction are bruised and abused. The banana warehouse forklift drivers of the world must use this widget as a flight simulator.

You will need a little program called the Unity Browser Plug-in to play this game. Most widget games require it actually. if you don’t have the plug-in, you will be prompted for an automatic download.

The game is created by a company called Widget Monkeys, of course. Notice that I refrained from a single “monkeying around” reference (patting myself on the back).

Enjoy!
