One of the most popular Internet phenomena now has its very own widget!
My husband is six years older than I am, and he always tells me that I am from that other generation; the one that embraces all of the new socialization culture of the Internet. But the truth be told, although I am aware of of these cool networks, websites and ways of communicating, I’m slow to embrace them fully.
Take YouTube, for example. Sure, I’ve seen a couple of videos here and there, but I never really got attached. Well, thanks to the YouTubMe widget, that fact just changed now that YouTube videos come straight to my desktop.
Instead of clicking and searching through pages of “stuff,” I can just type keywords (tags) into the search bar and see what comes up. This is a lot of fun. I did a search for “Age of Innocence,” one of my favorite movies and got all sorts of results, from clips of the film (in different languages) to a little kid killing a bug and yelling at in in Spanish (very cute).
There is also some quick searches, such as “Top,” “Recent” and “Featured.” Don’t miss “The History of Dance.” It is pretty hysterical.
This widget is so easy and intuitive to use that I am sure it will stay on my dashboard for quite a while. There are, however, two drawbacks or “flaws,” in this widget. First, I could really do without the advertising along the sides of the widget. It is very clever marketing, but highly distracting and annoying. Second, some videos may not work with this widget, if the owners of the video choose not to allow video embedding. If that happens, you will get a message with an explanation, but it isn’t something that will come up very often.
