Welcome to the 39th week of pregnancy! Time for a baby!
What you may be experiencing
You may find yourself nesting in the days before you actually go into labor. So if you have the need to wash baby clothes, clean house, shop, or cook- go with it. But, don’t overdo it. Many a mom has nested herself into a frenzy, and then gone into labor without having ample time to rest up again. So do everything in moderation. Other moms may forgo the nesting in favor of support and information. Taking with other moms and family members about the impending birth is another way to get ready for the big day. Whatever ways you choose to cope with things- go with it.
Physically, you feel large and uncomfortable. You likely still can’t sleep, and heartburn and constipation are making things even more difficult. At this point, you want to be on the lookout for leaking amniotic fluid as well. You can usually tell the difference by emptying your bladder and then laying down for a bit. When you get up, if there is a trickle of fluid it is likely amniotic fluid and not urine. Your doctor can easily tell either way- so let them know if you have any concerns.

Concerns or Points of Interest
Are you worried about an episiotomy? Hopefully, you have looked into them already when you developed your birthing plan, but it is never too late to discuss your options with your doctor. Some may prefer to make a cut while others will let you tear. Bear in mind, you may not need either! If you follow your own body’s clues, you may not need any kind of help.
