Week in Review: November 12th – 17th

What’s been going on in LDS? Let’s take a look and find out.

In “Don’t Judge the Church by the People,” Tristi points out that sometimes the members don’t behave like they should. This doesn’t mean the Church isn’t true, it means that the people in it need to work on their faults. When we confuse the people with the Church, it can be easy to lose our testimonies, and we need to guard against that.

Tristi then answers the question, “Why Don’t Mormons Use Crosses?” She explains that members of the LDS Church prefer to focus on the resurrected Christ.

Miriam presents ideas for how to make the most out of “Family Time.” She suggests adjusting scripture reading to adapt to the needs of younger readers, holding family home evenings in a quiet and clean atmosphere, and offering family prayers.

In “Why Must There Be Trials?” Tristi reminds us that life is about trials, but it doesn’t have to be torture. We can learn from the things we endure and become closer to our Heavenly Father.

Miriam shared her thoughts on “Protecting Children from Negative Influences,” including a story about a girl in her daughter’s school who taught her classmates not to take the Lord’s name in vain.

In “Christmas and Personal Progress,” Miriam gave four great suggestions for ways to incorporate Christmas into the Personal Progress program. You can see artwork of the Nativity, offer Christmastime service, work on homemaking skills, and edify each other by writing down the positive qualities they see in the other girls.

She also discussed ways to get more out of the scriptures in “Studying the Scriptures by Topic.” If we think about that day’s concerns when we sit down with our scriptures, and then find a topic that relates, we’ll find specific help to that problem as we read.

We hope you enjoyed this week’s selection of blogs. Be sure to join us next week here in LDS!
