Week Twenty Six

I started my twenty sixth week of pregnancy with the determination to severely limit my sugar consumption due to my excessive weight gain at my last prenatal visit. This has been my greatest challenge but it is amazing what a little will power can achieve. Every meal is accompanied by my food journal where everything that I consume is recorded along with a protein and calorie count. This helps me watch my sugar intake and it also helps prevent me from exceeding my (pregnant) daily caloric needs.

In light of my commitment to avoid certain foods (in order to keep my weight gain on track), my biggest challenge came when I attended a baby shower for my husband’s cousin’s wife and unborn baby girl. Along with fresh fruits, vegetables, and deviled eggs, there was also croissants, sandwiches, dips with chips, bruschetta (my favorite antipasto), mini chocolate cupcakes, and larger more decadent cupcakes. It took all my strength to only put fresh fruit (a small amount), vegetables, and a deviled egg on my plate! Towards the end of the shower I allowed myself to have one mini cupcake; it was divine!

Also this week I had ample opportunities to talk to the other pregnant women in the family. We had a play date with my husband’s sister-in-law and her almost three year old son. The we all got together (husbands included) to go to a neighborhood festival. The ladies come together for the baby shower, and finally my husband, son, and I visited with my husband’s cousin’s wife before she flew back to her west coast home. Needless to say, it was nice to be in the company of other pregnant women!

At week twenty six our baby is as active as ever. I can even feel my belly stretching especially around my belly button that is completely popped out. I even took the time this week to put away all my pre pregnancy clothes.

At this point, all my “insurance policy” requirements seem to be on track and it seems that fall is here to stay!
