The interest in Facebook freebies heats up, and it just seems that people can’t get enough of free offers with this incredible social networking power.
I have to admit, there’s a rush when the free item arrives in the mail. There was a very brief offering by Heluva cheese, which missed this blog. I got to send away for it though, and the coupon came today. Haven’t received the coupon for SunChips yet. So far, there has been at least one free item per week in my mailbox, most of them from Facebook.
This week, a couple of items stand out on Facebook – some great offers, and a controversy. First, the freebies:
Become a fan of Redbox on Facebook, and get a coupon code for a free movie rental on March 17. These are the movies that you find rented in the Redbox cartels in supermarkets and outside convenience stores. Enjoy yourself!
Hurry, this expires March 15. Get free cookies from Quik Chek
Get a Buy One Get One Free coupon when you become a fan of Physicians Formula on Facebook. You could also win a Target gift card.
Get a $1 coupon for Scotties Facial Tissue when you become a fan. Print the coupon, it’s a bricks printable coupon.
OK, now the controversy.
It seems that Clarisea had an announcement on their Facebook page for months, offering a free sample for fan sign ups. It was announced in Stacy’s Freebies Blog, on About.com. That’s when they were deluged with requests. Clarisea put up an announcement on their wall that an “unauthorized posting” had resulted in them taking down the announcement. That unleashed a fury of comments. Clarisea’s founder later commented on the blog, and on the company’s wall, that this was a small company, with a small advertising campaign, and requests for the samples had been maybe two a week. Suddenly, they were flooded and could not keep up with the demand. They pledged to send as many samples as they could.
This shows the power of this medium. Companies get emails for marketing, and the cross promotion shows up across newsfeeds on Facebook. When a blogger announces the great find, the sign ups mushroom exponentially. People sign up, their friends sign up, and it can really be a rush.
So here’s my offer. If you’re promoting a free product or coupon on Facebook, and want to jump start your fan signups, drop me a line. There is intense interest in these promotions right now.
