I came across some interesting quotes and comments on motivation today and as I read them, I discovered a few good for motivating me to stay with my program of getting some of these extra pounds off. One of my favorite authors of all time, Mark Twain, said that habit is something that must be coaxed downstairs a step at a time.
That pretty well describes how you have to go about losing weight. It really has to be a habit, a routine, and one, step at a time. I found over the years that people would occasionally comment I seemed to still be rather flexible for my age, something I attribute to a quote from the great Carol Burnett. Years ago, she said one of they keys to good health and staying so thin was that she made an effort to stay flexible, even if it meant doing just a little bending and stretching every day.
I have followed that advice for almost 30 years and I still consider myself to be reasonably, flexible. Some weight loss experts will tell you that doing some of the right stretching exercises before going into any strenuous weight loss program is a great idea. In fact, stretching helps to lengthen muscles. With this, the muscles become more “elastic” for the hard work, even brisk walking.
There is another common problem with weight loss programs and regular exercise aimed at weight loss – it is just no fun! Here is another good quote that I like to remember for those moments when I just do not want to exercise or watch what I eat. The best way to approach it is to “go into something and stay with it until you like it.” It seems that we can make that come true by just starting and then staying with something until it becomes part of our routine.
