Here in Texas, we’ve broken the 3 digit temperature every day for three days. Welcome to April in the south. As much as it’s nice to say welcome to the lazy days of summer; we all know that summer is hardly a lazy time for us. Our kids will be home from school, they’ll have summer camps, they’ll want to go swimming and they’ll want to play with their friends.
We’re going to have a lot to do ourselves and these are just activities that we’re going to be adding to our busy summer days. So rather than telling you how to take it easy or to take some summer down time, here’s a few ways to keep to your diet even on the hottest of summer days.
- Going out for the day? Pack your bags with some healthy snacks like carrot sticks. Don’t rely on the available food vendors at the local zoo to have something you won’t feel guilty about eating.
- Make time every day for a light workout. You only need 30 minutes. You can visit my Fitness Blog for some ideas on how to do that.
- Going swimming with the kids at the pool? Don’t just hang out around the edges. Get into the water and play with them. Swim a few laps.
- Experiment with fruity shakes. You can enjoy the ice cold refreshment and cut down on your calories at the same time!
- Drink lots of water every day. The hotter it is outside, the more you will need to avoid dehydrating. Try drinking water every time you instruct your children to.
- Don’t let shame keep you out of a great outfit. When you dress well and you smile, you feel beautiful. It doesn’t take long for a beautiful mindset to help you achieve a beautiful body.
Summer time is a great time. You can have fun – enjoy yourself and still maintain a healthy diet. The 12 weeks of summer may just be the chrysalis that births the beautiful butterfly at the end of it for you.
