Weird Dreams

Do you have weird dreams when you’re pregnant? I do. I don’t know why, but with both pregnancies, I seemed to sleep deeper and have more vivid dreams than normal. I am a poor sleeper in general. I always have been, so for me to have dreams on a regular basis, and remember them definitely signifies I am having some issues that I need to work out in my sleep.

Think about it. When you find out you’re pregnant, there is such an emotional roller coaster. You’re happy one second, and freaking out the next. You don’t know what kind of mom you’ll be, or you’re worried about how to divide your love between more than one child. From the moment that test shows a positive sign, you’re brain is going non-stop. And, I’m afraid it doesn’t stop when you go to sleep either. Your mind is most likely trying to work out whatever stress or anxiety you have while you’re sleeping.

The funny thing for me is that one of my most recurring dreams that I have involves being single, or having other men desire me. As silly as it sounds, I wonder why I always have those type of dreams instead of dreams about my own husband who I love and adore!! Sometimes, an old boyfriend will pop up from my past in my dreams, or someone from high school that I had no relationship with whatsoever. It will be random, and it seems inexplicable!

However, there is evidence to support the fact that those added hormones are doing things to your sleep too! It might be a fun idea to journal your dreams during pregnancy. With all those trips to the bathroom in the middle of the night, you’re sure to wake up and remember one or two.

As pregnant women, we feel so insecure about so many things. Becoming a mother, our weight gain, will the baby be healthy, will our spouses still love us, will childbirth be scary, etc. etc. So, if you are finding that your dreams are a little stranger than normal, don’t worry, because it is in fact, very normal at least during pregnancy.
