Sometimes the words of the old hymns touch us so deeply. Last night as we practiced for church one we sang was, ‘May the Mind of Christ My Saviour,’ except we sang it with a more modern tune. Check out these words.
It started me thinking what difference would it make to my life if I thought the way Jesus did in every situation? What difference would it make to your life to have the mind of Christ?
Yet that is exactly what Jesus promised us in a way. He promised his helpers that the He would send another just like Himself who would bring to their mind all they needed to remember, John 14:16, 26. The Holy Spirit would counsel and teach them.
Each of us who belongs to Jesus has the Holy Sprit living with us. The difference is whether we are listening to the Spirit or whether we are quenching or silencing the Spirit, 1 Thessalonians 5:19, and letting our own ideas and wants ride roughshod over what God wants us to do.
‘May the mind of Christ my Savior live in me from day to day, by his love and power controlling all I do and say.’ Like it says, ‘All I do and say,’ not just sometimes, not just when it suits me or when it’s convenient or when I feel like it.
Thinks what a difference would make in your church, your community and your life if you allowed Christ’s mind to be in you. If you allowed each day to belong to Him and sought to do what He wants us to do. I know that’s what we are saying we will do when we promise to follow Jesus but so often it is not the reality. But it could be , if we will let God take over and stop trying to run our own lives and instead be aware of the Holy Spirit’s promptings.
