Here is a problem I have had that I think I have resolved. I have two kids, and of course, they are the focus of most of my scrapbook pages. However, I have wondered if when they are older am I going to give these albums to them, or keep them for myself? I do have baby books for them also. However, those books do not have many pictures in them. So, the majority of their lives are documented in the scrapbooks. I do not believe that you always have to scrapbook in chronological order. So, I have decided that I will do it in the following way.
I will scrapbook each child’s first year that is all about them. The first year is the time when they change the most. Then, when they are old enough to really cherish, and take care of that album, I will give it to them to have. This will also have to be a time in my life where I am ready to let go of that album. So maybe when the kids are 40? In those albums, I try to focus on milestone pictures, or pictures where they are the only person in them.
Then, I will also have family albums. This sounds time consuming doesn’t it? Well, believe me, scrapbooking is one of the most never ending projects you can ever start! The family albums are for me and my husband to keep. Of course they will be passed onto the children when we are gone. I try to focus on putting pictures in those that my husband and I can go back and look at and reminisce when we are old and wrinkly! This will include baby pictures too, of course, but it will be focused mainly on things we did other than take pictures of our kids!
Since I do not always scrapbook in order, I have a stack of layouts at all times that are sitting on a shelf ready to go into an album. One day my albums will all be lined up on a shelf in perfect chronological order, and I’ll be able to pull one down and look back on what we did in the year 2010. Doesn’t that sound nice? But, with the art of scrapbooking, things are always changing, so next month, I may think of a different way to do it. That is the beauty of this hobby.
How do you decide what album to put your pictures in?
