As we saw in the article posted yesterday, warehouse grocery stores can save you an average of 30 percent on your groceries. It is important to know, though, that this is an average savings. There are some items at the bulk stores that are much better bargains than others.
The secret is to concentrate on buying these bargains at the warehouse stores, this way you can get the most savings for your grocery dollar.
Don’t have a membership? Many warehouse grocery stores will allow you to try them out, sometimes with a 15 percent fee and sometimes with no fee at all. You can use that opportunity to stock up on just the best bargains, if you only have a one-day pass.
Here are the items that I find are the best bargains at the warehouse store.
Diapers
It used to be that diaper prices just couldn’t be beat at warehouse stores. This was before the online diaper wars between diapers.com and Amazon, though, so compare your prices against those sites, if you are willing to buy them online. I haven’t bought diapers in years, so I don’t have the current prices available for you.
Yeast
If you do a lot of baking, invest in bulk yeast at a warehouse store. The price for this is significantly less than the prices at grocery stores. You can freeze yeast until you are ready to use it, so you won’t have to worry about having too much before it can be used.
Meats
Meats tend to have some great bargain prices at the warehouse stores, especially if you like beef and ham. The selection of cuts is starting to increase, too, so you’ll have a better chance than ever before of getting what you want at the lowest price.
Baked Goods
Baked goods, such as bread, cake, cookies and pies can be real bargains, especially if you buy them fresh. Stock up here and store baked goods in the freezer, or shop this section when you have a holiday party or gathering planned.
