Did you hear about the New York woman who has a unique birthday story to tell? Get this: the woman, a resident of Queens reportedly gave birth to her daughter on her birthday and now has granddaughters born on her birthday. Confused? According to news reports, Rose Caracciolo was born in Queens on September 27th of 1957. On September 27th of 1978 she gave birth to daughter Andria Hundley in California. Then this past September 27th Hundley gave birth to twin daughters in Arizona. But Caracciolo wasn’t there for the birth of her granddaughters. She was on her way to Mexico to celebrate her own birthday. Talk about a coincidence.
Actually, the sharing of birthdays may not be as rare as it would first appear to be. After all, as I think about it, my own family has a similar situation (not exactly as bewildering as the Caracciolo’s, but unique nonetheless). My brother and I were born exactly 11 months to the day apart from each other. So we are the same age for exactly one month a year. What’s more, during the first four days in the months of August and Spetember members of my immediate family celebrate birthdays. Then, I have another brother who was also born in September who can brag that he was born on the ninth day of the ninth month at 9:09 a.m. Weird, huh?
As I spend more time pondering the duplicate birthday phenomenon I can think of others I know who have the honor of celebrating two special occasions on the same day. For example, my friend from high school just gave birth to her daughter on her 34th birthday (though the baby was born three weeks premature). My own daughter was born less than 40 hours after my husband’s 38th birthday. And, my dad was born less than a day after his father’s 33rd birthday.
Do you have any shared birthdays in your family? What are they?
