Are you paying more for milk this month? Guess where milk buyers paid a whopping $3.69 a gallon. Or, maybe you want to move to the area that is only paying $2.76 per gallon?
In an earlier blog, How Much Did You Pay for Milk Last Year, I wrote about the average prices for milk for the past year of 2006. Some regions seem ridiculously low, while other regions started high and stayed high.
The United States Department of Agriculture released a report on the average prices for milk paid so far in January. They based their report on information gathered between the first and the tenth of the month, collecting price information for the most common brands of milk, based on shelf space, in the gallon-size container. These prices are for whole milk only. The investigators only went to larger chain stores to collect their prices.
The simple average for all of the regions is $3.29, so count yourself lucky if you paid less than that amount. I’m happy to say that my region came under the average, did yours?
Here are some of the regions surveyed by the Federal milk order market administrators, along with their respective milk prices.
Take a look at these prices and tell me if you pay more or less for milk. What are some of your strategies for saving money on milk?
