What Do Farrah Fawcett and Britney Spears Have in Common?

Other than the fact that they once shared the same hair color.

It appears that both famous blondes have been victims of snooping medical employees at UCLA Medical Center. In a previous blog I detailed the ugly incident involving medical staff that leaked private information from Britney Spears’ files to the press. More than a dozen employees were fired or disciplined in that matter. Now, UCLA officials say they just fired another employee for snooping in Farrah Fawcett’s medical records.

And get this… it was Fawcett who brought the leak to her doctor’s attention. According to the Los Angeles Times, the “Charlie’s Angels” star met with a doctor last May and expressed concern that details of her condition were being leaked to tabloids, and he reported it to hospital executives.

For those of you who have been living under a rock the 61-year-old beauty was diagnosed with cancer in 2006, declared cancer-free by doctors in February 2007, but her cancer returned a few months later. Fawcett is currently undergoing experimental cancer treatments in Germany.

Fawcett’s attorney told the L.A. Times that an employee at the hospital accessed the TV icon’s medical records without authorization, and details about her cancer treatment later showed up in the National Enquirer. Adding insult to injury, according to Fawcett’s attorney, is the fact that the tabloid published details about a recurrence in the actress’ cancer before she had a chance to tell family and friends.

“She’s a very private person and she’s reluctant to go public about this, let alone take legal action,” Fawcett’s attorney told the paper. “She’s fighting for her life.”

As for the National Enquirer, editors there told the Times, “We publish what we believe is accurate.”

Okay, so the tabloid doesn’t follow the most ethical means of collecting information. But, what I find more disturbing is the fact that reporters there fabricated quotes to include in their Fawcett story, including ones that claimed the actress “had given up” and “wanted to die.

The actress vehemently denied ever uttering those statements.

If I were Fawcett I’d stay in Germany as long as I could. If she cherishes her privacy she should stay away from L.A.
