What do you live for?

We all live for something, so what is it you find that excites you in life? Is there something you would drop everything for on a daily basis to do? All I can say is I’m glad I was permitted to write for Families.com’s Christian blogs, because I tend to drop other things in my day to share my thoughts here. Though what I’m studying and writing may be pleasing to God and building my own faith, it shouldn’t compete with direct devotional time with Him.

People live for lots of things: Their careers, spouse, kids, social status, vanity, sports, pornography, eating, talking on the phone, being on their computer, watching their daily line-up of TV, their personal situations…. With the exception of pornography, generally speaking, there is nothing wrong with making time for these other things in moderation. Sometimes we need to be asked, what god we’re serving. We all serve something. Anything that takes priority over God is idolatry. God understands we can’t spend every second of every day in constant prayer, but we can carry Him with us. We can talk with Him throughout our day.

So many are walking around in this world with a God-sized hole in their lives. They are filling it with counterfeit gods, and other sin often leaving them more and more empty. There is only ONE God. This God came to us through Jesus Christ giving Himself as a sacrifice for us! He died to save us from hell which would be inevitable otherwise as a result of our sins. All we have to do believe, and repent of our old ways looking to God to guide us in righteousness.

If there is something in your life that you believe has taken the place of Jesus, perhaps you might pray:

Jesus, You are my God, my Lord, my Redeemer. Forgive me for not putting You first in my life. I’m sorry for allowing the cares of this world to come before You. I need more of You in my life. Please guide me as I go about my days, to keep You as the focus of my life. Help me to desire You over things. Thank you God for your love and mercy toward me. Amen.
