Working from home is realistic for many people, however if you are looking to get rich quick you might be in for a surprise. No one is really making $1,000 a week stuffing envelopes, if they were, no one would work outside the home and we would have an excess of stuffed envelopes.
There are many opportunities to work from home. Just do a Google search for work at home or home based business and you will find more information than you can possibly read. There’s a lot of garbage in there, companies that will help you replace your income, for a fee, pay no attention to those. I’ve never had to pay a company to give me a job. That is not to say there won’t be start up costs involved.
Do your research and find something that calls to you. There are so many opportunities out there, but there are also a lot of people already providing that good or service. Can you do it better? Try to think outside the box.
Many companies that do very well took a simple need and made a successful business out of it. Take organizing closets, that is a multi million dollar business now, that didn’t exist when my mother was a young housewife.
Who knew cupcakes were the next big thing? I can’t go anywhere without seeing advertisements for all these yummy cupcakes. Cake pops are starting to take off in the same way. If you don’t want to do the same work at home thing that everyone else is doing, child care or selling Avon, or multi level marketing, take a look at the things you can do in a new light.
I have a friend who started an Etsy shop because she loves making jewelry and she’s really good at it. It didn’t take off until she started making “dark” jewelry that appeals to the younger crowd that is obsessed with vampires and zombies. Now she is busy all the time and she likes it but it makes her sad that her real passion, the beautiful delicate jewelry she makes has gotten pushed to the side for this other jewelry.
Find a niche and go for it. Take something you do and expand it until you find that one thing that people are trying to find. Even photography is evolving with the advent of free online photo editing. Remember the newborn pictures we got years ago? Now these babies have their first real photo shoot before they are a week old.
The opportunities are out there. The important thing is to take your time, do your research, find something you love that people want.
