Sometimes I enjoy thinking of fun ways to share my experiences as a home-based professional with others. Today, I decided that a fun way to explore the benefits of being a home-based professional would be to see how many ways I can complete the following sentence: “Because I am a home-based professional, I can…..”
This week, so far, I am able to complete that sentence in a number of ways. Because I am a home-based professional, yesterday I took my little boy out for a long walk at noontime on a beautiful winter day. Because I work from home, I can enjoy cooking nutritious meals for my family that I might not have time to prepare otherwise. Since I am in charge of my own business, I can solicit more clients because I have found some additional time in my schedule. What’s more, I can do that soliciting at eleven o’clock at night after I have finished doing the work that I have planned to do today. Oh yes, how could I almost forget to add that because I work from home I can complete my assignments today even though it is snowing and travel is treacherous.
There are more things on my agenda this week that I know I would not be able to do if I did not work from home. Tomorrow, I have two friends bringing their sons to my house for a play date. While the boys play, we will get to have lunch and catch up with each other because it’s been a while since we have seen each other. If today’s snowstorm has been cleaned up by late afternoon tomorrow, I may even leave town to go grocery shopping at a natural foods store a few towns away. I would like to be able to pick up some hard-to-find items that will make food preparation over the next couple of weeks a little easier as we try to determine whether my son has some kind of food sensitivity.
The week is young, it is only Tuesday. I am sure that I will find myself completing that sentence in a few more ways before the weekend. Speaking of the weekend, because I am a home-based professional I can choose when I have days off. Right now, that means that I work on weekends because my husband’s schedule gives him days off during the week instead of on the weekends. I consider myself very fortunate that we are able to have days off together even though his work does not always follow a traditional weekly schedule. What kinds of things can you do because you are a home-based professional?
