What Happens When Your Own Mother Thinks You’re an Abomination

Ask Nadya Suleman.

The California woman who used fertility treatment to give birth to octuplets should be celebrating the fact that her eight newborns are alive and flourishing, but instead she’s dealing with hundreds of death threats, seething public ridicule and the paparazzi.

Oh, and apparently her own mother doesn’t think much of her either.

Earlier this week Angela Suleman told an online news site that what her daughter has done to become a single mother of 14 is “unconscionable.”

Nadya’s mom went on to say that she questions how her unemployed daughter, who already has six children, will cope with eight more babies… and she doesn’t want to stick around and find out.

Angela has already threatened to move out of the tiny bungalow she shares with her 33-year-old daughter and her gaggle of children (all under the age of eight), but video clips reveal that she’s still there. Perhaps, she fears for Nadya’s six older children—the ones she has helped raise since their births—and is staying put for their sake.

Here’s my question: How do you handle living in what one news reporter called a “cramped and filthy home” with a woman who has publicly called you an “abomination,” constantly speaks out about your poor decision making skills and ridicules your lifestyle?

It can’t be easy when the comments are laced with the truth. Then again, living with a mother who questions your every move is better than being on the street. Or worse… dead.

Police said Thursday they will investigate death threats against Nadya and advise her publicist on how to handle the tsunami of other nasty messages that have flooded his office.

Word has it that the unemployed mother, who is receiving public assistance to care for the 14 children she conceived through in vitro fertilization, has angered many people.

According to Los Angeles police, more than 500 death threats have come into Nadya’s publicist’s office since her sit-down interview with Ann Curry aired on NBC earlier this week.

But, the news is not all bad. According to Nadya’s rep, one family from the Midwest has invited the single mom and her brood to live on their farm.

If Nadya doesn’t take the farmer up on his offer I’m sure her mom will.
