We all have activities and coping mechanisms that help us feel more grounded—those things we can do when we start to feel restless, unsettled, or as though we would fly off the face of the planet if it wasn’t for gravity! What do you do to make you feel more settled and grounded? If you’re looking for some ideas to help you during those unsettling times, here are some suggestions:
I tend to either clean house or sort and purge when I am feeling ungrounded. I have to admit that the feeling does not come to me as often as it used to. I don’t know whether it was because I was younger, or the state that my life was in—but my twenties and early thirties often felt very ungrounded. As I have gotten older, I am definitely more confident in my life and I feel as though I have more control over things. I still get those days, however, when I feel as though I am not exactly sure what I should be doing and whose life I am living anyway?!
Straightening, putting the house in order, and cleaning out excess stuff helps me. Spending time with a good, trusted friend can help too. I have to be careful here because I definitely have some friends who make me feel LESS grounded—those fun, immature, scattered people are not the ones I need to be around when I am feeling restless myself. A trip to the library or book store and the reading of a good book is another settling tool that works for me. What about you? Do you have some tricks and tips for helping yourself feel more grounded during those restless and unsettling times that you would be willing to share with the rest of us?
