One of the realities of working in a traditional job with an office full of co-workers, is that one often has to put up with moodiness, crabbiness and other behaviors from our co-workers. Sure, it can be character-building and help us develop tolerance and appreciation for the differences in other people, but when one is working from her own home-based business—this is not as big of a factor.
Okay, so we still have to deal with moody customers or clients and we might even also be coping with our crabby children during the work day—but all in all, we are not stuck in a small office with a griping and snarky adult who complains for the bulk of a work shift! We can take a break, decide not to answer phone calls from someone who is being unreasonable for a day or so, or otherwise control our environment in ways that we cannot when we have to “get alone with everybody” in a traditional job.
It is not that I cannot muster compassion and it is a good thing to learn how to work and adjust to all sorts of people—but with a home business, we do not have to listen to the constant complaints of have someone saying “Oh, just ignore me today I’m in a bad mood”—as if we CAN ignore the under-the-breath comments, the sighs, the phone-slamming, etc. At home, we might only have our own crabbiness to contend with and sometimes a good self-talking-to is all I need!
The next time you get to missing all that “social interaction” that comes with working in a traditional office, shop, warehouse, or other environment—remind yourself of how fabulous it is NOT to have to tolerate a crabby, moody, and overwhelming co-worker and you just might find yourself appreciating the controlled environment of your home based business.
