Have you heard of high intensity interval training? This isn’t for the faint of heart and I will be the first to admit I am no where near the ability to attempt this. My Wii Fit recently informed me that while my Wii Fit age has gone down, it is still higher than my actual age…so there is more work to be done.
At any rate, high intensity interval training can help you burn more calories and lose more fat in a shorter amount of time. I think the key word is found in “intensity,” as this truly is an intense form of exercise.
Some people might get stuck on the whole idea of this taking a shorter amount of time but just because it does, doesn’t mean it’s easy…far from it. This is an extremely physically demanding type of exercise.
So needless to say if you have any cardiovascular problems, if you are not in very good shape or if you are new to aerobic exercise then this wouldn’t be for you. High intensity interval training will push you to the point where you wonder if you can make it.
As an example, a high intensity interval workout might look like this (when you first start off): 5 minutes of warm up, 1 minute of work interval at maximum intensity, 4 minutes of recovery interval, repeat for 2 minutes and a 5 minute cool down.
Now keep in mind that to maximize this type of workout, you must maintain an intensity level of 60-70% of your MHR (maximum heart rate) during the warm up, recovery intervals and cool down.
So if you are ready to take your fitness routine to a new level, then high intensity interval training might be for you. I would suggest you do some further research into this and also talk with your doctor since this really is a serious form of exercise.
