Ah, Pleasure Island. When I worked at Walt Disney World in the late 1980s, other reservationists and I would often go to Pleasure Island after a swing shift. Some of the names of the clubs have changed but the fun is timeless. If you’re planning a family vacation at Walt Disney World but would like to take an evening just for you and your spouse or significant other, book a babysitter through your Walt Disney World Resort and head to Pleasure Island for the evening.
Pleasure Island is an island of nightclubs and restaurants with a few shops mixed in for good measure. It is in the Downtown Disney area so you can forget about the car and walk if you’re staying in one of the Downtown Disney hotels. When you enter Pleasure Island, you only have to purchase one ticket and it will grant you admission into all the clubs (provided you’re old enough, of course).
Following are the clubs you can visit, or spend the entire night at while on Pleasure Island:
8 Trax: (Must be 21 to enter.) This is a ’70s and ’80s style dance club. Disco is not dead. It lives on at 8 Trax with the music of the Bee Gees, Donna Summer, the Village People, and other favorites.
Adventurers Club: (18 and up admitted with a 21-year-old escort.) This is an audience-participation comedy club featuring tall tales by great explorers. Just be careful when you sit at the bar. It isn’t your drink, the stools move up and down and you never know when they’ll do it.
BET Soundstage Club: (Must be 21 to enter.) This is a two-story dance club featuring a DJ spinning the latest hip-hop as well as old-school R&B favorites.
Mannequins Dance Palace: (Must be 21 to enter.) This is a techno-trance dance club that features a huge rotating dance floor. (Once again, it isn’t your drink!)
Motion: (Must be 21 to enter.) This is a very current top 40 dance club featuring music videos on a huge screen.
The Comedy Warehouse: (18 and up admitted with a 21-year-old escort.) I remember thinking how much this place looked like a barn when I walked in. I also remember how much my cheeks and sides hurt from all the laughing when I walked out. This club has amazing comedians and you are guaranteed to laugh until something hurts.
Just think of Pleasure Island as your very own adult amusement park!
