The report is in and I doubt any one is surprised by the results. More than a month after she was found unresponsive in her Florida hotel room, former Playboy Playmate Anna Nicole Smith’s autopsy is revealed.
The long awaited and much-anticipated (by the media anyway) autopsy shows that the model died of an accidental overdose of a sleeping medication and other drugs. Broward County Medical Examiner Joshua Perper said Smith died of “combined drug intoxication with the sleeping medication chloral hydrate as the major factor.”
The medical examiner said Smith was taking a host of medications, including methadone for pain. In addition, test results showed that Smith had consumed several antidepressant drugs, anti-anxiety drugs and weight-reducing drugs prior to her death.
The autopsy results put to rest rumors that Smith took her own life or that she was the victim of a homicide.
“We found nothing to indicate any foul play,” said a representative from the Seminole police department.
The medical examiner also noted to reporters that Smith “showed no evidence of disease.”
In the weeks that followed Smith’s sudden death speculation grew about possible criminal activity, but today investigators were quick to point that no illegal drugs were found in Smith’s hotel room. What’s more, investigators said that Smith did not suffer any visible marks to her body.
Police also reported that they conducted what they considered a “thorough investigation,” which included reviewing hundreds of hours of videotapes captured by the hotel security cameras and analyzing the contents of the laptop computer belonging to Smith’s companion, Howard K. Stern.
The autopsy disclosure comes more than three weeks after Smith was finally buried in the Bahamas. One mystery down two to go. Today marks the beginning of an inquest into the death of Smith’s son, Daniel, who died last September at age 20. Then, in a few weeks, investigators should have the results of a paternity test conducted on the men who allege they fathered Smith’s 6-month-old daughter Dannielynn.
