What Makes You Happy?

Happiness is something we all tend to feel we have a right to have in our lives. Happiness is something we all expect to find in our marriages. Today on the radio I heard a doctor talking about happiness and why some people are happier than others.

I was interested to hear that what he said was something we have talked about here from time to time. He suggested keeping a journal and writing down every day the things that happen to you. Then you look over each day, you will soon see things you can be happy about.

Happiness sometimes is in the small things. For us yesterday, who are sweltering with extremely hot temperatures, happiness was going together to the beach for an hour and a half. Fortunately Mick and I have similar ideas about the beach. We like to go, have a swim and then come home or rest in the shade of the trees. None if this laying about getting skin cancer and tans on the beach. It was interesting yesterday to see the number of older couples enjoying the beach now that schools have gone back and most people have gone back to work. It’s certainly something to be thankful for where we live.

We both are reminded each time we go and enjoy it, the how blessed we are and wonder how we survived the years in Western Sydney where it was so hot. Simple, we survived because we had too. It was all we could afford to buy and in the end, regardless of all the other factors, the most important thing was we were together and had a home in which to bring up our family. That’s more than some people in this world have, so we still had reason to be thankful.

I’ve recently written a blog about being thankful and it’s no surprise to me that the majority of people mentioned their husbands and family as what they were thankful for. When a relationship is good that is reason to be thankful.

I’d love to hear what makes you happy and what you are thankful for.
