Have you ever thought of yourself as an advertisement for the Christian faith and for Jesus? Because that’s what we are in a sense, an advertisement or ambassador for Jesus, 2 Corinthians 5:20.
Does the thought that you are an ambassador for Jesus scare you? I admit sometimes it scares me.
Whether we like it or not the world is watching us and the way we behave. If others see that we don’t act or speak any differently than that rest of society, they are going to conclude that our faith is of little value. That there is ‘no point being a Christian. How often have you hear someone say after a person has hurt them or done something they didn’t agree with or slipped up in some way, ‘And they call themselves a Christian.’ Ouch!
When we behave badly it reflect on Jesus. That is a scary thought. Do you ever wonder what other people think when they look at you? I know I do and sometimes I know I let the Lord down by not behaving the way He would like, by not saying and doing the things I should. The reality is none of us is perfect. We are still a work in progress and we need to remember that and not be too hard on ourselves.
But it’s no good dwelling on past mistakes and failure either. The only thing we can do is learn from them, confess them and move on trying to do better in future. If it means apologizing to someone you have hurt, then go and do it and seek their forgiveness as well as the Lord’s. He forgives us with out question when we repent. Remember, too to forgive yourself and resolve to try and not make the same mistake again.
