Chances are you are stunned how fast your newborn baby has grown. It seems as if just last week you gave birth when all of the sudden, the child is nine months of age. Watching your baby grow and develop is a fascinating journey. As the child begins to sit up, stand, walk, and talk on his/her own, all you can do is sit back and marvel. It seems as if every day, the baby has grasped the concept of yet something new.
If this is your first baby, having someone to use for comparison is a little more challenging but if you have other children, you will have a good idea of what to expect. Even with this, you need to be aware that children are very different. For instance, your first child may have mastered sitting up on his/her own around eight months of age but now your next baby is ten months, and just starting to try. Do not be alarmed, since differences will occur from one baby to the next.
Now, if you have more than one child and you were to notice significant differences in development, you should talk to your pediatrician to rule out any concerns. However, most babies around the nine-month age will begin to respond to quiet sounds. As an example, if your baby were playing with a book or favorite stuffed animal and you were to walk into the room without saying anything, he or she should turn the head to see who walked in.
Crawling around nine months is big business. At this time, you should see your child being relatively mobile while on the hands and knees. In addition, your baby should be able to support him/herself while sitting. Although you might see the baby wobble, sitting alone should not be too difficult. In addition, most babies at this age can hold a bottle. These are just a few of the standard milestones for this age that you could look for but again, if you have concerns or notice development not progressing as you think, then talk to the doctor.
