Since housework is a never ending job that very few people enjoy, I think sometimes we forget the benefits of having routines and habits to keep our homes clean. It’s hard to develop habits when it comes to cleaning, but the payoff makes it worthwhile. Start today, one thing at a time, and develop habits that work for you, to keep your house clean.
There are many things that you can look forward to when you establish your routines and make them a habit.
The first is just being able to enjoy a clean home. The knowledge that your home is company ready, at any time, if very freeing. If you follow your routines and keep up on the maintenance of your home then if someone drops by unexpectedly, you will not be stressed. Whether it’s your mother or the PTA president, knowing that your home is clean makes the unexpected visit less stressful.
A clean house allows more time to spend with your loved ones. If you are not in a constant state of putting out fires there is more time to relax and enjoy the company of the people you love.
By having established routines your husband and children will be better able to help. They will know what needs to be done and when. If you all work together to keep the house clean there will be more respect for your living space which in turn will require less upkeep.
You will gain a sense of pride you didn’t have before. No longer will you have to pretend you are not home when people drop by unexpectedly. You will have more time to pursue things you enjoy. Once your routines are firmly established it will be almost as if you house cleans itself.
So, until they invent a self cleaning house, routines are the closest you will get!
