What Will Black Friday 2012 Be Like?

christmas shopping What kind of deals will you get this year for Black Friday 2012? How early will the stores open and will the bargains be worth fighting the crowds and the lack of sleep? Even though it is only September, some of the experts are already making their predictions.

Gottadeal.com is reporting that things will mostly be the way that they were last year for Black Friday. The stores will be open early, some of them on Thanksgiving, as I already reported. There will be a handful of hot deals, but quantities will be extremely limited, making it unlikely for the average person to snag them. Gottadeal is also predicting that just like last year, the Black Friday specials will not have the “wow” factor that they had a decade ago, so don’t expect any Blu Ray players for $5. There just won’t be that much excitement.

Social networking should play a big part in deals this year, so if you aren’t “liking” and “following” your favorite stores, you may lose out on the best sales.

As for the hot items, tablets and ereaders will be some of the most popular purchases, but with manufacturers so tight on inventory these days, quantities will be limited. Don’t expect any price discounts, but may will be other incentives, such as free gift cards or accessories with purchase. The same goes for new smartphones.

HDTVs and Laptop computers will also be hot items that may see some discounted prices. You may be able to get a 32 inch LCD HDTV for less than $150. Compare that to a $1500 price tag just a few years ago. Prices have been going down steadily. Right now you can get a 32 inch LCD HDTV for about $179.

As for toys, it looks like the Furby is back, although how well it will do remains to be seen.

I’ll continue to report on Black Friday news here in the Frugal Living blog at Families as it becomes available.
